PDF to Word

Turn a PDF into an editable .docx you can open in Word, Google Docs, Pages, or LibreOffice. Scanned pages fall back to OCR. Document processing happens in this browser tab; BrowserPDF has no file-upload endpoint.

This preserves your document's text and structure: headings, lists, bold and italic. It does not reproduce complex layouts (tables, columns, embedded images); for those, expect to do some cleanup in Word.

How it works

  • Three steps, all local: pdf.js extracts each page's text with position and font metadata (falling back to Tesseract.js OCR for scanned pages), the structure detector infers headings, lists, and emphasis, and a .docx file is assembled directly in your browser.
  • A .docx is a ZIP of XML files; this tool writes that format from scratch, without server-side Office software. Headings become real Word heading styles, so the navigation pane works.
  • Honest expectations: conversion quality tracks how well-structured the source PDF is. Clean reports convert well; heavily designed layouts won't.

Frequently asked questions

Will my document look identical in Word?

The text and structure survive: headings become real Word heading styles, and lists and bold/italic are preserved. Complex layouts (tables, columns, embedded images) are not reproduced, so expect some cleanup on heavily designed files.

Does it work with scanned PDFs?

Yes. Scanned pages fall back to on-device OCR before conversion, with 14 selectable languages.

Which apps can open the result?

The .docx opens in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Apple Pages, and LibreOffice.
